Russ Pope is a respected and beloved icon within the skateboard and apparel industries. He is also one of the most sought after artists in the action sports communities and international art circles, and showcases his art installations around the world. Formerly the marketing virtuoso for Vans, today this proud father and husband is the Global Director of Art and Skate for Converse and also runs his grassroots skateboard brand Transportation Unit.
From the beginning, Russ has promoted our brand through his artwork out of friendship while turning down art projects from large fortune 500 companies. He designed our 2012 Barbershop Quartet limited edition skateboard deck. The board's custom shape was designed by me, which is also the shape I ride, and the art was created by him. This board concept was our original take on “Available Here” display signs rooted deeply in our lifelong passion for skateboarding. And herein lies our connection: Our passion for and desire to merge skateboarding, music, art, multiple creative projects that inspire us, family and good people.
Russ is a creative free spirit who is as generous and genuine as he is successful and talented.
