Photos by German-born photographer Fred Herzog.
Most of the street photos are of Vancouver, where he emigrated to in 1953. While employed as a medical photographer, his passion for photography took him on evenings and weekends to the streets to document the daily life of ordinary people. He worked with slide film, mostly Kodachrome, during a time when most photographers worked mainly with black and white.

The Corner Bistro in the Village. Excellent burgers, some say the best. We say a close tie to JG Melon and The Burger Joint hidden in the Le Parker Meridien.

Stand by Me A classic coming of age film set in the 1950s about a group of friends setting out on a quest, and finding a hell of a lot more about themselves than they expected to. Fantastic storytelling and acting by the late River Phoenix and cast. Set & filmed in Oregon.

The Best Thing I Ever Done HQ from Margaret Emily MacKenzie on Vimeo.
We did a post about one of our favorite pizza places awhile back. Now check out this short documentary The Best Thing I Ever Done to get to know the "Godfather of Brooklyn Pizza." He works morning til night seven days a week year-round, so this might be one of the few chances you get to hear his story from his own mouth. The amount of dedication, care, and love he puts into every single pizza he makes is unmatchable. Everyone should have the Di Fara experience at least once in their life - waiting, lines, and all - it's the rare moment when you see New Yorkers slow down a bit and be patient in his presence. This doc about the dom is part of the Brooklyn Film Festival, which just kicked off.

Do you remember this from way back when? I'm sure many of you had this - The Virgin Digital Find the 75 Bands - forwarded to your email. At the time it pretty much killed my entire day of work productivity; ironically it had been emailed to me by my boss.
Can you still find the bands (before looking up the answers from others?). Some have been able to find more than 75, by the way.

If you live in an area that doesn't offer good radio stations, East Village Radio might be your saving grace. Pick a genre you dig and you can listen to it day to night, or open your mind and just listen live to whatever is playing at the moment.
And if the schedule of the show you wanna listen to doesn't fit with your schedule, every show is impressively archived - all you have to do is click on the playlist to see the entire show set listed in order and then click listen.
If you live in New York, check out EVR's main page for upcoming concerts and other music news info.

South African Township Barbershops & Salons is a compilation of photographs documenting the thriving grooming industry in communities once designated for black occupation by apartheid legislation. As the cultural and social hubs of South Africa's townships, these "informal barbershops" and salons serve not only as places to get your hair styled but as places to come together as a community. In this book, UK-based Simon Weller presents his vivid photographs of these shops and the tradition of sign painting, alongside interviews with the proprietors, customers and the sign makers. Weller - with help from revered South African designer and book contributor Garth Walker - shows the effort put into personalizing salons, from the homemade graphics to a signature style of cut.
